Top 10 Songs of 2011

I had always admired people who can write poetry sometimes envied them too.
Poetry is the best way to express and communicate emotions, feelings and thoughts. Poetry in India has been the unifying force. According to the cultural heritage it is believed that the first Hindi poems were written in Vedic times to please the gods and display devotion. Gradually the devotional aspect was replaced by love and romance.
Though because of the awesomely good Hindi teachers in the Convent school, I went to; I could never appreciate the Hindi poets, but was big time fascinated by the lyrists.
But my concern and the subject matter is related to the present state, where the lyrists while penning Hindi films songs use words without meaning to make songs popular. Maybe they want to rise above the clutter, adding fun element to the lyrics and make the songs peppy. Random lyrics make the lyrics make a song quotable.
As I started looking for such songs, the trend is not a new one, lyrists have always tried this. Ramesh sippy’s Shaan had a song ‘Yamma yamma…yeh khoobsurat sama’ and Salim- Javed’s  Trishul had a song called, ‘Gapuchi Gapuchi gam gam’, compare it to Vipul Shah’s Singh is King which had ‘Tainu dulha kisne banaya bhootnike’ (written by Mayur Puri) or Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal returns’ ‘Tha karke’ (written by Ashish Pandit) or Red chilies’ Billoo had ‘love mera hit hit’(written by Ashish Pandit). The legendry Gulzaar wrote ‘Marjaani Marjaani khasmanu khaye marjaani’ in Billoo!!!
There are numerous songs which have such words of phrases, many are written in conversational style and are sort expression of a mindset, not actually lyrics! Some are also extension to dialogues. The instant chartbuster, ‘Bhaag D.K Bose’ (written by Amitabh Bhattacharya) from the movie Delhi Belly is one such song, one can’t figure out the reason behind its popularity is it the rock infested composition or is it double meaning lyrics…
Last year (2011), most the popular songs were such songs which had catchy phrases or words…
·        Chammak Challo’ is my personal favorite J written by Vishal Dadlani and Niranjan Lyenger.  Just can’t resist the temptation to dance to it whenever I hear the song! Akon too had been the an influence for all to like the song, but Kareena Kapoor overshadowing SRK :D is the real treat for everyone’s eyes!!
·        Dhunki’ is my next favorite J well written by Irshad Kamil. The term dhunki was on everybody’s lips and mine too and still is in my case! I keep humming the song every now and then…and finally got to know what does DHUNKI means! Thanks to papa J
·        Senorita’ the Indo-Spanish written by the Great Javed Akhtar and as I would love to write this…sung by Hrithik:* , Farhan and Abhay!!! Peppy and unconventional, I love the song for its lyrics, music, dance steps and of course for HRITHK <3
·        Sadda Haq’ not to forget! Again awesomely written by Irshad kamil. The first released song from Rockstar defining the character Ranbir Kapoor plays! The love the rough and tough looks he wears in the song the raw ways he moves to it. Rahman tuhje salaam J
·        Darling’ the crazy naughty appeal the song has and as Priyanka expresses the right moods…everyone loved the song and I was no exception. I have seen middle aged women having this song as their ringtones :p though it was meant to arouse the younger ones!!!
·        Character Dheela’ written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, I could not believe the FILMFARE magazine that it was not originally written for Salman Khan, it seemed so appropriate for his personality!! (No offences Salman Bhai :p)
·        Dilli’ the ironic hard hitting nugget written by Amitabh Bhattacharya …with lot of rock influence in music!
·        Ooh la la’ I hate the song for its dirty lyrics by Rajat Aroraa…dirty video…dirty dance moves…but no doubt Bappi da has done it again!!!
·        ‘Munni Badnaam’ written by music composer Lalit Pandit (remember he is the one made Tujhe Dekha toh yeh jaana!!!) who turned lyrist with the Dabaang song.
·         ‘Shelia ki Jawani’ as humiliating as munni…written by another music composer turned lyrist Vishal Dadlani (the man who composed Khuda Jaane!) I have no more thoughts on the song. Farhan khan could do better than this song and much better than Teer Maar Khan! But yes if she so wanted to work with Akshay Kumar…Teer Maar Khan was perfect :p
