Today while having my lunch, I saw a group of students; I
would rather call it a bunch of friends who were filling slam books!!!
It is said that whatever media content a human enjoys is
actually related to him/her…he/she feels a connection…relates it to his/her
life and likes or dislikes it accordingly.
Now whatever I saw today afternoon left me recalling how
excited I use to be to get those slam books filled up by anyone and everyone…as
if those are the people I’m gonna miss the most after school ends or college
for that matter…though back then in 2001 there was no facebook!!! And when I
say anyone and everyone…literally it was so…my best friends (they are always
more than two at a time :p) to fill the honorable first pages, then friends to
me (I mean friends who are friends just for the sake of being friends…or eating
out together!!!), my favorite teachers (always very few…but yes all my English
teachers good ones obviously!), my class mates (the intelligent ones though
good for nothing types they are) and
finally those whom I considered mattered a lot though I had hardly had any
interaction with them…but then they were the school heroes…I’m using a
decent polite public word but still I hope you get the drift…;) :p
The process of getting it filled was one of tedious task…yet
very REWARDING!!!
Oh man…I forgot, the first page of all my slam books are
filled by my loving brother Karan…who thought if he won’t fill the first page
it would mean I don’t love him and surely brother is much more important than
school friends, good looking classmates, handsome seniors and favorite
teachers!!!
So the whole thing started by going to Archies gallery with
him and promising him the first page fill. Then getting it filled from him with
full nakhra…delaying it for two days minimum so that I get irritated and my
whole excitement vanishes. Read it infront of him and appreciating all his
choices :p Love you lil bro!
The main proceeding…started when it was handed to the best
friends and the thinking process or you may call it the mind game which started
wherein the hardest decisions started off…Who all are gonna be the lucky ones
to fill it??? Without seeming desperate!!!
The best friends took
long enough…writing fancy stuff as if they are the NEXT BIG THING!!! Then the
slam book use to get feet and travel by itself to the next category of friends
and later to classmates. Taking autographs from teachers use to be nothing less
than a ROADIE task…that too English teachers with so much attitude!!! I learnt
the word ‘tantrums’ that year J J J
Finally came the time when slam books were to be filled by
the so called HEROES of the school…you go to their friends who are also your
friends, luckily, and try to talk to them and get the thing filled…and you got
to learn about the starry tantrums…some behaved like Movie stars and some like
big time flirts! I still remember some of the dialogues… “Oh yaar I’ve been
filling such books since morning...last one now”… “Normally I don’t fill slam
books or give autographs…but then it’s for you…you play basket ball…I saw you
the other day”
And I tell you ‘everything that glitters is not gold’ is
very true…most of them were not as good as I thought them to be! Many had
yellow teeth…bad breath…dandruff…drooled…long dirty small finger nail (total
YUCK)…fat in their eyes! Some talked non sense…some tried walking like Salman
Khan although they had lean body and their shoulders almost non-existent.
It was then that I got to know that boys are the ugliest creature
on planet Earth. Education doesn’t change them…they were passing out of a
Convent school and still managed to be like…
I'm always kind!!!
indeed very kind :D
