For every individual pursuing study in a specific field, the most dreaded time of academic year is most certainly when the exams start. Its exam season in the university I work can’t stop recalling my school days when the board full form was ICSE: I Can’t Stand Education and later ISC: I Still Can’t and when exams scared hell out of me especially Maths one!!!
I hate Maths like every third person on planet Earth hates it. I wonder why Greeks did curse us all with this crappy calculus, how did it matter if a child doesn’t learn or for that matter know about the ugly and frightful PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM! (Mom’s favorite…She loves Maths so does my little brother!)
I was always weak in Maths, still can’t figure out the reason for, but over the years I have understood why I hated Maths…Mom loved it…even though I wanted to do English homework I had to finish Maths homework first. And cherry on the cake is that my brother is a genius at Maths and he could even solve higher grade Maths problem…which I was suppose to solve.
I still hate all my Maths teachers; they may save their grace and not read this blog for their own good! I had believed all these years that people who love Maths are the most boring creatures in the Universe. They don’t read newspapers rather solve the Sudoku instead…ignoring the hilarious cartoon strips…intelligent sayings for the day…futuristic predictions!!! If you have read “3 Mistakes of my Life” by Chetan Bhagat…you will understand why I hated the protagonist of the novel, though his name too sounded boring…Govind Patel…Yuck.
Maths teachers seemed to be stone hearted and it felt as if they can never be polite and frowned all the damn time. For them scoring good in Maths is the ultimate goal of life…theirs and others too. Most of my Maths teachers were not very good looking…I tried too hard to listen carefully what they are to say in class but most of the times I ended up thinking of their bad fashion sense…imagine I thought I have better fashion sense when I was in school than my Maths teachers…though all English teachers were the best dressed people in the school except for sisters of the convent most of whom taught English and few others taught geography!!!
In grade six, my Maths teacher was also my class in-charge and she was the highest contributor to my disliking for Maths…the vamp ignored my good scores in English, Computers, Chemistry, Biology, Civics, Geography and month after month she made my Momsy think that I can never do well in Maths and jewel on the crown was I really never wanted to…but why the hell did she tell this to mom in every PT meet…just to hurt her… I was raged and mom use to cry and later scold me!!!
The change of events happen when I opted to go for Mass communication after twelfth grade and whenever a small of writing got published in even a college magazine Mom was more than happy and I was on top of the world…which resulted in my placed me university’s merit lists in all my college years!!! I made her proud without being good at Maths…and that’s real success!!!
